This B Corp Month, we’re celebrating sustainability – not just in business, but in everyday life too. As cat owners, there are many small, eco-friendly changes we can make that benefit both our pets and the planet.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating DIY sustainable solutions at home.

Make a DIY toilet roll treat dispenser

Turn an empty toilet roll into a fun, eco-friendly treat toy.

  1. Cut small holes along the sides, just big enough for treats to fall out.
  2. Fold one end of the roll inwards to partially close it.
  3. Add tasty Applaws Freeze Dried Treats.
  4. Lightly fold the other end so treats only escape when batted around.
  5. Let your cat play! Watch as they roll, paw, and chase their new favourite toy.

Why it’s sustainable: Repurposing cardboard helps reduce waste while keeping your cat excited and engaged.

Make a DIY eco-friendly cat bed

Instead of buying a new pet bed, repurpose everyday things from around your home to create a comfy and sustainable snooze spot for your cat.

  1. Find an old jumper, hoodie, or blanket – soft and cosy materials work best.
  2. Stuff it with old towels, pillows, or even shredded fabric scraps.
  3. Sew or tie the ends together to create a nest-like shape.
  4. Pop it in your cat’s favourite lounging area and watch them claim it as their own!

Why it’s sustainable: Upcycling old clothing helps reduce textile waste while giving your cat a snuggly bed that smells like their favourite person – you!

Create a DIY cardboard cat scratcher

Instead of buying a new scratching post, turn old cardboard boxes into an upcycled scratcher. Your cat will love it, and so will the planet.

  1. Find a sturdy cardboard delivery box.
  2. Cut the cardboard into equal-sized strips (about 5cm wide).
  3. Roll the strips tightly into a spiral or stack them flat in layers.
  4. Secure with non-toxic glue or tie together with jute string.
  5. Place it on the floor, and let your cat scratch away!

Why it’s sustainable: Reusing cardboard instead of sending it to landfill reduces waste while keeping your cat entertained.
